2010 Haiti Quake - 16:53:10 EST January 12, 2010 Epicenter Léogâne, Haiti

Tuesday afternoon, January 12th, one of the worst earthquakes to hit Haiti in 200 years struck less than ten miles from the Caribbean city of Port-au-Prince. The initial quake was followed by twelve aftershocks greater than 5.0 in magnitude. Structures of all kinds were damaged or collapsed, from shantytown homes to national landmarks. The Pan American Health Organization estimates 50,000 to 100,000 died in the 7.0-magnitude quake and Haitian officials believe the number is much higher. "

Haiti 2010 Quake - Looting

Panic grips a group of looters after large bangs from breaking concrete rang out in the building they were in. Looting plagued Port-au-Prince in the days after a 7.0 earthquake rocked Haiti. While filming, a looter attempted to steal the photographer's iPhone, he was able to recover the device later.
