Saving the Devadasi
Each year in India half a million pilgrims converge to worship the deity Yellamma, during the ceremonies, young girls are dedicated as Devadasi or 'temple servants.' Girls are married to the deity and must spend their lives serving the deity, including catering to the sexual needs of men in the community. The Rescue Foundation Mumbai, houses 50 rescued brothel workers, most of whom are under the age of 18.
